    Robotics Academy

    Overview

The Chasewood Robotics Academy is a comprehensive program where children are learning to design, build, and program robots using computers. Using a creative educational approach that supports Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), this class is led by Chasewood Learning’s teacher-led instruction followed by fun, engaging and dynamic activities.

    Academy Levels

The Robotics Academy is a multi-level program where children are placed based on skill and experience. Students can move up a level each time they take the class to take on more advanced concepts. Chasewood Learning offers Robotics instruction options based on age level and ability - LEGO WeDo Robotics, and LEGO Mindstorms EV3 Robotics. Classes can include all age levels with each student working on the curriculum geared towards their abilities.

    LEGO WeDo Robotics

    Grade/Age Level

The LEGO WeDo Robotics course is suited for students in Grades K through 4

    Overview

Chasewood Learning offers a curriculum that introduces young students to robotics. Working in pairs, students learn by building and programming projects based on the LEGO Education WeDo Activity Set. Projects emphasize mechanisms used in robotics, primarily simple machines mechanisms, including levers, gears, and pulleys. These mechanisms are used for different purposes depending upon the theme of the activity and its focused subject matter in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics.

The LEGO® Education WeDo™ Software is used to create programs by dragging and dropping Blocks into a sequence on the computer screen Canvas. Several Blocks control the motor, tilt sensor and motion sensor. There are also Blocks that control the computer keyboard, display, microphone and speaker.

    LEGO Mindstorms EV3 Robotics

    Grade/Age Level

The Mindstorms EV3 Robotics course is suited for students in Grades 3 through 8, but can be extended to students in Grades 2 with basic computer skills and the ability to comprehend advanced topics.

The core of the Mindstorms EV3 robot is the EV3 Intelligent Brick, a compact and powerful programmable computer that makes it possible to control motors and collect sensor feedback using the intuitive icon-based programming and data logging software.

The EV3 is programmed through the Labview Mindstorms graphical programming environment. By dragging and dropping icons into a line to form commands, students are able to build simple programs, and then easily and intuitively build on their skills until they are developing complex algorithms.

The EV3 curriculum provides lessons and challenges. The lessons are designed to grow students' abilities to program their robots and investigate how sensors work. The challenges then provide a way for students to apply their learning to a more specific task.

    Overview

Chasewood Learning offers a robotics curriculum based on the LEGO® MINDSTORMS® EV3 Robot.

The EV3 is used in many organized robotics competitions, including the World Robotics Olympiad (WRO) and First Lego League (FLL). Students who complete the Chasewood Learning EV3 robotics curriculum have the knowledge and hands-on education to participate in these competitions.
